This artwork uses seven screens to present the travel process of the data from the computer to the destination (the server that hosts the website) of each website.

This artwork will query which website to be reached from the database, then use Traceroute to trace the nodes (place) which the data passes, and download the photos of the node location (city or country) from the search engine instantly. Those images are visually present the path which the data travels in a vertical pattern, the presents time is the same as the time spent on the data travel. Moreover, this kind of speedy browsing experience seems to be owned by this generation.

If each data have a unique life, once you browse the website, a new data is born. Each website is hosted on a different regions’ server. So when we are browsing the website, the data starts from the local machine, travel through many nodes of different places, several countries journey, and reached the destination (Server) finally. Which is just in a few milliseconds, the data completed the mission of their lives, even considered to be died.

The audiences stand in front of the works such as standing on the scenes of death. However, “death” is not that serious in this artwork, and not that humanity like the human. Most people talking about death, they usually feel sorrow or associate with negative things, which is too gravely. Is that we project “death” directly on people when we talk about it? But if we stand back to view all of this, it is just a natural thing.

I treat the data as human in this artwork, they have fulfilled their goals or missions in their lifetime, and have traveled to many places, which is enviable.

Likewise, our lives are in this way too, what’s gone is gone, and what is coming cannot be halted, yet in between, how swift is the shift in such a rush? This is the rule of our system, this is the rule of our nature.
