命案現場 – Living to Die

這件作品透過七個螢幕來呈現瀏覽每個網站時，數據到達目的地（網站所存的伺服器）所遊歷的過程。
作品會先從數據庫中選取需到達的網站，利用Traceroute的方式取得數據所經過的節點，並即時地從網路中下載該節點所處地方的照片，以橫向排列的方式，擺脫以往對於數據的視覺印象，圖像化地呈現出數據所行走的路徑，而整個展示過程與數據遊歷所花的實際時間相同。此外，如此快速的瀏覽體驗，似乎是這個世代所擁有的。
假設每個數據都是獨一無二的生命，所以每次瀏覧網站時，都會有新的數據誕生。
每個網站都是存放在不同地區的伺服器中，所以當瀏覽網站時，數據從本機出發，在幾毫秒間經過許多不同地區的節點，如旅行般的遊歷了數個國度，最後到達目的地，完成了使命，甚至被視為死亡。
觀看者站在作品前，見證數據的一生，但其實「死亡」在裡並沒那麼嚴肅，甚至沒那麼具有人性；數據經歷了生死，但與我們常常談論的死亡、那些投射在人們身上的情感，都與悲傷或負面劃上等號，似乎把死亡看得太重了。但也抽身來看，這不是平常不過的事嗎？

This artwork uses seven screens to present the travel process of the data from the computer to the destination (the server that hosts the website) of each website.
This artwork will query which website to be reached from the database, then use Traceroute to obtain the nodes (place) which the data passes, and download the photos of each node location (city or country) from the search engine API instantly. Those images countries or regions are visually displayed in a horizontal pattern according to the browsing order, the display time is the same as the time spent on the data travel. Moreover, this kind of speedy browsing experience seems to be owned by this generation.
If each data has a unique life, once you browse the website, a new data is born. Each website is hosted on a different regions’ server. When we are browsing the website, the data starts from the local machine, travel through many nodes of different places, several countries journey, and reached the destination (Server) finally. Which is just in a few milliseconds, the data completed the mission of their lives, even considered to have died.
When people see death, it usually associates with sorrow and afraid to deal with it. Other than that, the same feeling wouldn’t be expressed to those which is not that “human” and serious like the story here, DATA. Therefore, this artwork uses the story of Data to highlight that death is just part of the process of life. If you view it from another perspective, isn’t it how nature goes in all time?
